“This is a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to finding my role with this team,” said West, who played collegiately at Xavier, earning two national player of the year awards as a senior. “”I feel I can add to this group and once I find my place, I’ll help this ballclub the best I can.”

Bird staying on as Pacers President

The Indiana Pacers are keeping Larry Bird as team president.

The team made the announcement on Tuesday after Bird met with owner Herb Simon in Los Angeles. Bird was in the final year of his contract.

The team also announced that David Morway will stay on as general manager.

The Pacers now will decide how interim coach Frank Vogel fits into their plans. The 37-year-old Vogel stepped in at midseason and had a 20-18 regular-season record. The Pacers challenged the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs before losing their first-round series 4-1.

The Pacers are coming off their first postseason berth since 2006. The team has four starters with three or fewer years of experience, and the franchise will have the financial flexibility to add pieces.

That’s all the news for today.
